Skill Level:  Beginner

Description:  How it all works: the slight overbalance. Feeling overbalance and underbalance by experimenting with how we stand on feet.

Handstand body alignment: posterior pelvic tilt, shoulder extension and rotator cuff protection, orientation of elbows, head positions, leg positions. Skeleton stacking and floating. Role of shoulder flexibility. Common problems and mistakes; the infamous "bananastand."

Hand position and alignment: placement and orientation of hands, cambering of fingers. Role of wrist flexibility.

Wrist care: stretching and strengthening. Wrist protection tools and strategies.

Cartwheel technique for safe exit.

Shoulders-forward lunge position for well-controlled kickup.

Training body alignment and balance in headstand.

Training hand and wrist control in crow pose.

Training strength and alignment by facing wall.

Training handstand balance with low center of gravity (double stag or tuck) facing away from wall.

Discussion of handstand variations: planche, contortion planche, hollowback, crocodile, one-arm.

Discussion of presses: straddle, pike, tuck, Stalder. The role of lower body flexibility.
